    Biography

    Bent-Cole helped lead the fighting Irish to their first state championship in nearly 40 years. She was named First-Team All American.

    She was named the MAX Player of the Year and USA Today Player of the Year

    She was also a team member on the 2023 Junior Pan American Championships that won a gold medal. She is also a team member on the U-21 Women’s National Team and the senior U.S. Women’s National Team.

    Bent-Cole will attend Northwestern University.

    Biography

    Coach Brady has built Archbishop Spalding into one of the top field hockey programs in Maryland.

    At the helm of the Archbishop Spalding Field Hockey team, she has amassed over 350 victories. She has an impressive 147-39-10 record over the last decade

    This past season, Brady led Spalding to a runner-up finish in the Interscholastic Athletic Federation of Maryland’s A Conference. Spalding won the championship in 2021, there third since 2013. This year 17-4 mark led to the team being ranked No. 13 in the MAX Field Hockey Mid-Atlantic Top 20.

    She has developed eight First Team All-State performers. Additionally, she led Cavaliers to a pair of A Conference championships.

    Eva Nemeth has become one of the best field hockey players in the nation.

    Biography

    Nemeth has led Great Valley to greatness on and off the field of play. She was the team captain as a senior and junior. She was names 1st Team All-League, All-Area, and All-State as a junior.

    After her sophomore campaign, she was named 1st Team All-League and Area. She was named 2nd Team All-State. As a freshman she earned 2nd Team All-League honors.

    Nemeth was also a U18 National Team Selection in 2023. She was also an invitee for the U21 Women’s National Team Camp. She was an U16 Nexus National Championship selection. She was also part of the U16 AAU Junior Olympics and Team Dream.

    Wanda Ward-MacLean

    Wanda Ward-MacLean was a legend on and off the field as she touched so many.

    Biography

    Ward-MacLean has led the Hornets and holds over 399 career victories and claimed an unofficial 400th win on June 14th over her 40 year tenure.

    She coached 4 State Championship teams (1994, 1996, 2012, and 2021) and 8 State Final appearances. She has several student-athletes playing in the NCAA level, Divisions I, II, and III.

    In June of 2023, she was inducted into the Maine Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame.

    Sadly, in July of 2023, she succumbed to her battle with terminal metastatic breast cancer. She leaves a legacy in both Field Hockey and coach in Maine behind.

    Biography

    Heck leaves high school with the national record for the most goals in a single season. Heck, who will play collegiately at the University of North Carolina, set the national record for goals in a season with 125 during her senior season. She netted 323 goals during her four-year career.

    In a COVID-shortened 2020 season, Heck scored 76 goals in just 14 games, good for an average of nearly 5.5 goals per game. She was named South Jersey Player of the Year in 2020.

    During her career, Heck helped lead the school to two Tournament of Champions titles.
    Heck is the third player from the South Jersey powerhouse to win the NHSCA Senior Field Hockey Athlete of the Year award.

    She was named to the 2022-23 U.S. National Team. She is also the youngest player to compete at the Tournament at the 2022 Senior Nexus Championships. She also won gold at the Junior Pan-Am Games.

    Biography

    Slattery ended her scholastic career with an outstanding season that led Severna Park to its first state championship since 2015.

    Slattery, who will attend Northwestern University on a field hockey scholarship, scored 22 goals and dished-out 18 assistants giving her school its 24th overall Maryland field hockey state championship.

    Slattery became the fourth member of her family to win a field hockey state championship at Severna Park, joining sisters Samantha, Emma and Julia.

    For her career Slattery, scored 51 goals and 35 assists. She was honored for her senior season by being named the All-Metro Player by the Year by the Baltimore Sun. She was also named Player of the Year by the Capital Gazette and Varsity Sports Network.

    A three-year starter for Severna Park, Slattery, who owns a weighted 4.41 GPA, was named 1st team all-state for the second straight year by the Field Hockey Coaches Association of Maryland. She was named 1st team All-Met by the Washington Post and MAX Field Hockey placed her to its 2019 Preseason Player to Watch List.

    Slattery is the editor-in-chief of the school’s yearbook and she’s the secretary for the National Honor Society.

    Slattery is the third Maryland high school field hockey player to win the award. Carey Fetting-Smith of Bryn Mawr School for Girls won the award for the 2000-2001 school year. A year before Fetting-Smith’s win, Jacque LaFleur of Bel Air High School was our national honoree.

    Biography

    Good, who is an Oak Knoll alum (Class of 1995), has built the Royals into one of the top high school field hockey teams in the nation. In 2019, Oak Knoll won its second New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament of Champions (“TOC”) in the last three years.

    Oak Knoll finished a perfect 26-0 last season, outscoring opponents 168-9 with 20 shutouts. The Royals finished No. 1 in the Max Field Hockey national rankings.

    Good, who owns a career record of 345-24-7 in 15 seasons, has now led Oak Knoll to three overall TOC titles and 11 NJSIAA state championships. Oak Knoll’s three Tournament of Championship titles came against fellow New Jersey-power Eastern High School. Overall, the two field hockey powers have played seven times for the TOC crown.

    After the championship, Good said, “It was a historic year for Oak Knoll field hockey, and I couldn’t be prouder of this group of student-athletes.”

    Good is the third New Jersey high school field hockey coach to receive the honor. Laurie Kerr of
    Warren Hills High School won the award for the 2014-15 school year. Eastern High School’s Danyle Heilig was honored for the 2009-10 sports season.

    Hannah Tillier

    Tillier capped off her outstanding senior season with 24 goals and eight assists.

    Biography

    Tillier had an outstanding senior season with 24 goals and eight assists in leading Guilford to the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) A Division championship game where Tillier and her teammates beat Cheshire 5-1 for the title, which was the school’s third straight conference title. The senior co-captain scored a goal and dished-out two assists in the title game.

    Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Connecticut didn’t hold a postseason, which denied Guilford a shot at a third straight Class M state championship.

    Tillier’s outstanding senior season led to her being named the 2020 SCC Division A Player of the Year and GameTimeCT’s Player of the Year. Tillier, who scored 42 goals during her career and handed-out 28 assists, is a two-time member of the All-SCC team and GameTimeCT’s All-State field hockey team.

    Tillier will attend Boston University in the Fall.

    Biography

    In December of 2020 Hollamon led Delmar to its fifth straight state championship in the school’s sixth straight title game appearance. Delmar won the Division II state title with a 4-1 win over Caravel, which was the Buccaneers’ 78th straight victory. For the year, Delmar outscored its opponents 93-2.

    After the championship victory, Hollamon told Morning Star Publications, “Every year is different and this one is special because of everything we experienced this year. Never once did they complain (about COVID-19 rules). They continued to be the best they could be.”

    Hollamon is the first Delaware high school field hockey coach to receive this honor. She was also a standout at the University of Delaware.

    Biography

    Soto led Penn Manor to its first-ever undefeated season in winning the Pennsylvania Class 3A state championship in 2017, which also led to an overall No. 1 ranking in the Max Field Hockey Top 25 national rankings. The state title was the third for Soto and the Comets.

    After winning the state championship, Soto told LancasterOnline.com, “They were destined to do it. They had their mind set from the beginning. They just stuck with each other, listened and did everything they could. I’m so proud of them.”

    Soto, who has coached at Penn Manor for 13 seasons, topped the 600-win mark in 2015. He began his career as the head coach at Middleburg High School.

    Soto continues to lead the ladies of Penn Manor.

    Sharon Sarsen

    Sarsens holds over 1,000 career victories while leading her Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams to success.

    Biography

    This past season was another outstanding one for Lakeland under the direction of Sarsen, who led her team to a 22-1 record and a runner-up finish in the New York State Class B field hockey state championships. Sarsen now owns 639 victories in her time at the head of the program.

    She also coached school’s girls’ lacrosse team until 2015. She is still involved but finished her career with a record of 381-135-45. Her field hockey team’s second win of last season gave her a total of 1,000 victories combined in both sports.

    Overall, Sarsen has led Lakeland Field Hockey to twelve state titles, including nine in a row between 2009 and 2017. Her lacrosse teams have won ten Section 1 titles and 12 league titles.

    Sarsen is the second New York high school field hockey coach to receive the honor. Diane Chapman of Garden City High School won the award in 2006. Ironically, it was Chapman’s team that ended Lakeland’s run of nine straight state titles with a 1-0 win in mid-November. Last year, Sarsen was inducted into the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame.

    In 2020, Sarsen was inducted into the New York Sports Hall of Fame. The following year, she was inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame.

    Biography

    Coach Worley built Lakeland High School field hockey program into one of the best in the State of Virginia during her 15-years as head coach of the Lady Cavaliers.

    Worley’s lifetime record stands at 250-46-3 with her 2010 squad winning Virginia’s Class AAA state title. In addition to the 2010 state title, Worley coached her girls to two regional championships, 13 regular season Southeastern District titles, 12 district titles and one conference championship.

    Worley retired after the 2013 season to continue her higher education and spend more time with her family.

    Biography

    Donahue ended the 2012 season by guiding Watertown to its 13th Massachusetts state field hockey championship, which was also the school’s 92nd straight game without a loss; going 90-0-2 during the streak.

    The win streak is tied for the fourth longest all-time in America. In 2012, her 27th year as head coach of the program, Watertown finished a perfect 23-0,  while wining the MIAA Division 2 title. Donahue’s lifetime record is 528-30-45.

    Since being honored, Donahue has continued to lead Watertown. After 33 years at the helm, her teams have won 18 Division 2 State Championships. In 2019, she was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame. She holds a career record of 678-33-46.

    Heading into the season, Max Field Hockey named Connors as one of the Top 50 field hockey players in the nation.

    Biography

    Connors, who will play field hockey at the University of California at Berkeley, closed-out an outstanding scholastic career by helping Scripps Ranch win the CIF-San Diego Section Open Division championship. She scored 43 goals with 18 assists this past season.

    At the end of the season, the CIF-San Diego Section honored her as its Field Hockey Player of the Year. Connors also competes in cross country, which takes place at the same time of the year as field hockey.

    Before playing in the field hockey section championship, earlier in the day Connors finished 9th in the section cross country finals. Heading into the season, Max Field Hockey named Connors as one of the Top 50 field hockey players in the nation. In the classroom, Megan carries a 4.23 GPA and scored a 29 on her ACT.

    Connors played in every game her freshman season. She scored her first collegiate goal in the season opener again Quinnipiac. Off the field, she was named to the  NFHCA National Academic Squad. She was also on the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

    Biography

    Andretta closed-out her incredible scholastic career by becoming New Jersey’s first hockey player to score 100 goals and 100 assists in her career. Gabby led Oak Knoll to its third Non-Public Schools state championship in four years, plus a Tournament of Champions championship by scoring 40 goals with 35 assists. She finished her career with 106 goals and 107 assists.

    Andretta, who will play field hockey at Princeton, was named first team All-State and New Jersey’s Field Hockey Player of the Year by NJ.com. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association honored Gabby with its Scholar of Distinction, which is bestowed upon players with a grade point average above 3.9 in the classroom.

    Thus far at Princeton, Andretta has started every game as a freshman and sophomore.

    Austyn Cuneo leaves high school as the country’s all-time leading goal scorer.

    Biography

    Austyn Cuneo leaves high school as the country’s all-time leading goal scorer.

    Cuneo’s numbers — 328 goals, 94 assists AND her team has never lost a game during her four-year career.  Her 95 goals as a senior was one shy of her single season record of 96 goals that she netted in 2013. She broke the record for most consecutive games with at least one goal — she finished with 70 straight games with at least a goal. Cuneo will attend the University of North Carolina.

    Cuneo spent two season at UNC before transferring to Rutgers University. Her senior year she was named team captian, First-Team All Region and Second Team All-AmericanShe also excelled in the classroom and was honored as Academic All-Big Ten as a junior.

    Carol Middough had an incredible senior season scoring goals – she netted 78 goals, which was the third most in high school field hockey history and second most all-time in the state of New Jersey. , While Middough was great at scoring, she also dished out 17 assists.

    Middough, who was named first-team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and Harrow Sports, ended her career with 131 goals and 66 assists. Middough was a member of the school’s National Honor Society and will play college field hockey at Yale in the fall.

    Middough is the second straight NHSCA Field Hockey Player of the Year from New Jersey.  Aside from 2013 winner Lexi Smith of Florence High School, the NHSCA honored Lori Hillman of Eastern Regional in 2002.

    At Yale, Middough was honored All Ivy three times in her career, including her senior year. She was also honored as the team’s Player of the Year. She led the Bulldogs three years in goals and points scored. She tallied 41 goals, placing her third overall in Yale’s record books.

    After graduating with her degree in History of Art, she spent the 2018-2019 season playing abroad in England for Clifton Robinsons.

    Biography

    Lexi Smith finishes her field hockey career as the nation’s all-time leading goal scorer.

    Smith, who will play college field hockey at College of New Jersey, scored 191 goals in four years. She broke the national record in October of 2015 with 175 goals. A glimpse of the future was given during Smith’s freshman year when she scored 44 goals.

    Smith was named First Team All-American her junior year at TCNJ.

    Biography

    Bozek had 77 points this season, scoring 40 goals and adding a national-best 37 assists to lead the Hornets to a 21-1 record, a third consecutive Class B state championship and the No. 3 final national ranking according to topofthecircle.com.

    She finished her career with 119 goals and 58 assists, and was one of just three players nationally to reach the 30-30 club in goals and assists as a senior.

    Bozek was named to the Harrow Sports/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team for the second consecutive year, and also was an NFHCA All-Academic Team selection.

    Selected to train at the Junior National Camp for field hockey the past two summers, Bozek also is a two-time member of the USA Under-17 Women’s National Field Hockey Team, which competed in the DOMO International Easter Hockey Tournament in the Netherlands. Bozek will attend the University of North Carolina. .

    While at UNC, Bozek played three years as a Tar Heel. She did not play her senior year due to an injury the summer prior.  She eared ACC Academic Honor Roll honors all four years. She was named the Laree Beans Practice Player of the Year, the team’s top honor, her sophomore and junior season.

    Biography

    A two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team All-American, Fluharty starred on both the Sussex Tech field hockey and lacrosse teams. She led the Ravens to state field hockey championships in 2009 and 2010, and was the state’s leading scorer with 40 goals and 24 assists as a senior. Fluharty led the team in scoring and was named the state’s Player of the Year in both seasons. She scored 120 goals and had 61 assists in her career.

    A four-time All-Henlopen Conference selection and a three-time First Team All-State selection in both field hockey and lacrosse, Fluharty scored 270 lacrosse goals and was coached in that sport by her mother, Kathleen Fluharty. Maxine Fluharty played on the USA Under-21 field hockey team that toured Ireland and Germany in March, scoring a pair of goals in the series. Also a NFHCA High School National Academic Team selection in 2010, she will play field hockey at the University of Maryland.

    Fluharty played all four years at Maryland. The team won the 2011 NCAA National Championships as the Terps knocked off perienal powerhouse UNC with a 3-2 win in overtime. She was named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Team three times; second team in 2011 and first team in 2012 and 2013. In addition, she was the Big 10 Player of the Year as a senior.

    She also received the Carla Tagliente Award, which is given to to the student-athlete who excels both on the field and in the classroom.

    Malmberg was a three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-American.

    Biography

    A three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-American, Malmberg led Marathon to an 18-2-1 record and the Class C state championship last fall. Marathon won three state titles during Malmberg’s career and was the state runner-up her junior year. In her career Malmberg scored 68 goals and had 90 assists, making her just the fourth girl to reach the 90-assist plateau in New York’s rich field hockey history.

    A veteran of USA Field Hockey developmental and national teams, Malmberg was the second youngest member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team that finished eighth in the BDO Junior World Cup Championships last summer, scoring a pair of goals in the tournament.   She was the only high school player selected to the team that represented the United States in a five-game test series against Argentina this month. She will attend the University of North Carolina, joining the NHSCA’s previous two Senior Athletes of the Year, Kelsey Kolojejchick and Katelyn Falgowski.

    Malmberg was a member of the 2012-13 U.S. National Development Team and U.S. Under-21 team. Off the field Malmberg was equally as successful. She was named to the  NFHCA National Academic Squad and also the All-ACC Academic Team three years in a row.

    Biography

    A four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American, Kolojejchick helped lead the Knights to a 23-1 record and the Class 2A state championship last fall, and the team posted an overall record of 87-5 during her career.

    A member of the Under-21 U.S. National Team since 2007, she helped the Americans win the Junior Pan American Games championship last fall, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Chile that enabled the American team to clinch first place in its pool. She also was a member of the Under-16 National Team.

    An all-around athlete, Kolojejchick was a two-time All-Conference selection in soccer, was the recipient of her team’s Gold Award in swimming and also competed in track and field during her career. She will attend the University of North Carolina.

    While at UNC, Kolojejchick and the Tar Heels made it to the Championship game all four years, winning the NCAA title her Freshman year. She was a four time First Team All-American, the first Tar Heel to do so.

    Kolojejchick won a Gold at the 2015 Pan American Games  and has been on Team USA since 2012. She is currently the Assistant Coach at Harvard University.

    Biography

    The midfielder was the only player to earn All-American First Team honors for a third time this season from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) after racking up 34 goals and 21 assists for a Magic team that advanced to the Class 3A state semifinals. During her career she totaled 102 goals and 91 assists to lead the Magic to a 93-12-1 record over her four years and the state title game as a junior.

    A member of a field hockey family, Reinprecht will join her older sister, Sarah, on the Princeton University field hockey squad next year. Her mother, Tina, is Mount St. Joseph’s co-head coach and her younger sister, Julia, a junior, also earned NFHCA First-Team All-America honors this season. Reinprecht played for the U.S. Under-21 National Team in Shanghai last summer and is the only high school player in the Senior national team pool.

    At Princeton Reinprecht was Longstreth/NFHCA Player of the Year her senior year. In addition, she was All-Ivy First Team and named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

    She was a member of the 2012 and 2016 Olympic teams and won a gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am Games.

    Biography

    Falgowski, a forward, was a four-time All-State selection. She was voted the state’s Player of the Year as a sophomore, when she scored 17 goals and added 15 assists, and as a junior, when she led St. Mark’s to the state title game with eight goals and 13 assists.

    A member of six U.S. National Teams, she became the youngest player ever selected to the U.S. Senior National Team, and competed in the World Cup last September, a month before her 18th birthday, as the U.S. finished sixth.

    A three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team All-American, she will attend the University of North Carolina.

    As a senior at UNC, she was named the National Player of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.  She was a four- time All Americans (first-team twice, second-team twice) and four-time All-ACC honoree.

    In 2008 Falgowski was the only collegiate team member representing the United States in the Olympics. She was also on the 2012 and the 2016 Olympic Teams. She also won Gold at the 2011 and the 2015 Pan American Games. She was named a FIH World All-Star in 2011.

    In 2018, Falgowski, now Ginolfi, retired from field hockey after a career for the record books.

    Biography

    Survilla, a forward, set a Pennsylvania state record by scoring 63 goals as a junior, two of them coming in the state championship game as she led Crestwood to an unbeaten season and the Class AA state title.

    A three-time selection to the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School All-America Team, including First Team honors the past two years, Survilla also is a four-year member of USA Field Hockey national teams.  She  competed on the Under-16 national team in 2003 and 2004 and the Under-21 national team the past two years.

    Also a standout center fielder on the Crestwood softball team, she will attend Duke University.

    LePage is the first girl from the state of Maine to ever to play on four state title teams.

    Biography

    In 2004 the NHSCA honored Skowhegan High coach Paula Doughty as its National High School Coach of Year. This year the association returns to Skowhegan to honor LePage, one of her greatest players ever. Small at 5-foot-1, LePage put up big numbers. As a senior she scored a school-record 32 goals and added 14 assists.  She scored the winning goal with under three minutes remaining in a 3-2 championship game victory, making her the first Maine girl ever to play on four state title teams.

    Voted the state Player of the Year by three Maine newspapers and a member of the Class A All-State Team, she also earned a mention in Sports Illustrated magazine’s Faces in the Crowd section. She had 59 goals, also a school record, and 29 assists in her career.

    LePage continued her field hockey career while enrolled at the University of Maine.

    Biography

    Honor student Caitlin Williams is this year’s NHSCA National Athlete of the Year in field hockey. Williams has been a member of the USA under-21 team and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas School in Greenland, N.H. One of the nation’s best goalkeepers, Williams is also a standout lacrosse player, and will continue her field hockey career at Duke University.

    Williams received All American honors while at Duke.  She was a team member for three of the Blue Devil’s Final Four appearances  and a pair of NCAA National Championship appearances. She led the ACC with 121 saves her senior season and 238 saves overall in her career. Upon graduation, Williams stayed on as an assistant coach at Duke for three seasons. She also was a two time ACC All-Academic Team honoree.

    In 2011 Williams was named the head coach at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. After five season, Williams, now Dallmeyer, was named the head coach at Lehigh University.

    Biography

    “Laree Beans’ impressive offensive numbers and leadership contributed to an ongoing tradition at one of the strongest field hockey programs in the nation,” said NHSCA executive director Bob Ferraro. “The NHSCA is proud to honor Laree Beans as the National High School Senior Field Hockey Athlete of the Year.”

    A three-time all-state selection, Beans led Emmaus High to state finals appearances in both her junior and senior seasons, including a state championship in 2001. As a junior and senior Beans was selected as an All-American.  ,  She finished her prep career with a school record 105 goals and 97 assists. Named the offensive player of the year at traditionally-strong Emmaus in her sophomore and senior seasons, Beans was also the Emmaus MVP in her junior and senior seasons. She will follow in the footsteps of several other Emmaus High greats who have gone on to play collegiately at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

    While at UNC, Beans finished her career with 12 goals and 12 assists. After college, Beans went on to coach Lafayette College, then at the University of Delaware for 2 seasons, back to Lafayette and then back to her alma mater, UNC for a stint.

    A three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First-Team All-American, Hillman, a midfielder, scored 22 goals and added 21 assists this season, and her 89 career goals are a school record. Hillman, who will attend the University of Michigan, led Eastern High to three consecutive Group 4 state titles, and the school’s record during her four-year career was 80-2-2, with both of the losses coming in her freshman year. She played on the under-18 National Team last year and will compete on the under-19 National Team this year.

    A two-time high school All-American, Fetting-Smith scored 11 goals and added 15 assists last fall to lead Bryn Mawr to a 20-0-2 record and a fourth consecutive independent school state title. She was the captain of the 1999 U.S. Under-16 National Team and was a member of the 2000 U.S. Under-20 and Under-19 National Teams. She also was selected National Player of the Year by SchoolSports.com.

    While at UNC, she led the Tar Heels to the 2004 ACC Championship with the best record in the country.

    Since graduating, Fetting-Smith has been involved with Teach for America. She was also recently a  a panel speaker on the “Growing Field Hockey in America” session at the USA Field Hockey Summit, presented by AstroTurf.
