Biography

A three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-American, Malmberg led Marathon to an 18-2-1 record and the Class C state championship last fall. Marathon won three state titles during Malmberg’s career and was the state runner-up her junior year. In her career Malmberg scored 68 goals and had 90 assists, making her just the fourth girl to reach the 90-assist plateau in New York’s rich field hockey history.

A veteran of USA Field Hockey developmental and national teams, Malmberg was the second youngest member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team that finished eighth in the BDO Junior World Cup Championships last summer, scoring a pair of goals in the tournament.   She was the only high school player selected to the team that represented the United States in a five-game test series against Argentina this month. She will attend the University of North Carolina, joining the NHSCA’s previous two Senior Athletes of the Year, Kelsey Kolojejchick and Katelyn Falgowski.

Malmberg was a member of the 2012-13 U.S. National Development Team and U.S. Under-21 team. Off the field Malmberg was equally as successful. She was named to the  NFHCA National Academic Squad and also the All-ACC Academic Team three years in a row.
