Biography

“Laree Beans’ impressive offensive numbers and leadership contributed to an ongoing tradition at one of the strongest field hockey programs in the nation,” said NHSCA executive director Bob Ferraro. “The NHSCA is proud to honor Laree Beans as the National High School Senior Field Hockey Athlete of the Year.”

A three-time all-state selection, Beans led Emmaus High to state finals appearances in both her junior and senior seasons, including a state championship in 2001. As a junior and senior Beans was selected as an All-American.  ,  She finished her prep career with a school record 105 goals and 97 assists. Named the offensive player of the year at traditionally-strong Emmaus in her sophomore and senior seasons, Beans was also the Emmaus MVP in her junior and senior seasons. She will follow in the footsteps of several other Emmaus High greats who have gone on to play collegiately at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

While at UNC, Beans finished her career with 12 goals and 12 assists. After college, Beans went on to coach Lafayette College, then at the University of Delaware for 2 seasons, back to Lafayette and then back to her alma mater, UNC for a stint.
