Biography
Coach Carlisle led Ben Davis to Indiana’s 4A championship with a perfect 33-0 record. Carlisle’s team finished No. 10 in the MaxPreps.com Top 25.
According to the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Ben Davis is only the 14th team in Indiana basketball history to win a state title while going undefeated.
Carlisle, a 1997 graduate of Ben Davis, also won a title as a player for the Giants. He was a player on the 1995 and 1996 teams that won single-class state titles.
“As a player, you just go along for the ride. You work hard, and, hopefully, come out and put out a good product,” said Carlisle, who was in his fifth year at the head of program. “As a coach, you’re in control of a lot more. A lot more stress, and a lot more things you’ve got to go about being in charge of. Especially the kids. As a coach, it’s a tougher gig. These kids, we’re 33-0. The first time that’s happened. I’m so incredibly proud of them.”
The championship also led to Carlisle being named the Coach of the Year of the Indiana High School Awards.
