Biography
The 6-foot-9 power forward had a spectacular senior season, averaging 24.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.1 blocked shots per game while shooting 67 per cent from the floor. He led St. Benedict’s to a 24-1 record and the No. 2 spot in the USA Today Super 25.
A member of the USA Today All-USA First Team, Samuels was selected by the newspaper as its Player of the Year. He also was a Parade magazine First Team All-American, a McDonalds All-American and the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year.
The University of Louisville commitment was voted the Most Valuable Player of three major tournaments this season: the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., the Bojangles Shootout in Charlotte, N.C. and the Nike Super Six in New York City.
Samuels played for two years for Louisville before deferring eligibility to go into the 2010 NBA Draft. Samuels played in Cleveland from 2010 until 2013 and has since been playing overseas.
