Impact Statement

Galle and UMS-Wright are synonymous with winning. His teams, over his 50 year career, have captured 59 State Championships in Track & Field and Cross Country.

Biography

Galle’s teams have dominated Class 4A competition during his 34 years at UMS-Wright. This month his boys team won its ninth state title in the past 10 years, winning by 105.5 points, and his girls team won its seventh consecutive title.

In all, 32 of his teams have won indoor and outdoor track state team titles, and eight of the athletes he has coached hold Alabama state records. He also has coached UMS-Wright’s cross country teams to five state titles, and 32 of his teams in the six disciplines have been state runners-up. A member of the UMS-Wright Hall of Fame, Galle was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame this year.

Since being honored, Galle is still at the helm of UMS-Wright after 50 years. His boys’ teams have won 19 Alabama Outdoor State Championships, while his girls’ captured 15 Outdoor State Championships. For indoor track and field, his boys’ teams have won 9 and the girls have won 4.  In addition, his teams have claimed 5 Boys’ and 7 Girls’ Cross Country State Titles.

In 2011 UMS-Wright’s track was renamed the Galle-Leatherbury Track.
