Biography
Earlier this month, the 5-foot-7 Kimbell became the ninth girl in Texas high school history to win four state singles titles and the first to win any of them in 5A, the state’s largest classification. She followed up two 4A titles with a pair of 5A crowns. In her four state tournament appearances Kimbell never lost a set, and dropped just 16 games in four state tournament matches this year.
Last fall Kimbell led New Braunfels to its third straight team title and second in 5A, and the Unicorns have won 75 straight matches and 120 of their last 123. Ranked No. 5 on tennisrecruiting.net’s Blue Chip list, Kimbell was the Orange Bowl Under-16 singles and doubles champion in 2007 and was the Texas Sectionals Grand Slam champion in 2009. In 2009, and again this year, she won a gold ball in doubles in the USTA Spring Supernationals and swept the singles and doubles titles in the Under-18 National Open Championships.
She will attend the University of Georgia. Kimbell finished her career at Georgia with a 109-31 record in doubles competition. She was named to the All-SEC 2nd Team twice.
