Biography
Leo and Lex closed-out their outstanding scholastic careers by leading Newbury Park to its fourth straight state and national championships.
At the California Interscholastic Federation’s Division 2 championships, Lex beat Leo for the state title. Lex’s time was 14-minutes, 27.9 seconds, a new Division 2 record.
After the race, Lex Young told the Ventura County Star, “It just happened to be my day. We both were capable of it for sure.”
The brothers finished 1-2 in the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 finals, the Asics Clovis Invitational and Marmonte League championships. Leo won the Clovis and Marmonte races, while Lex captured the CIF-Southern Section title.
The Ventura County Star newspaper named the brothers as their Runners of the Year in December.
Both announced last year that they would continue their education and running careers at Stanford.
Since being honored, Lex was named the Pac-12 Men’s XC Freshman of the Year in 2023. He was also named All-Pac-12 XC Second Team. Both Leo and Lex were members of the NCAA West Region XC team champions.
