Biography

Karl-Anthony Towns, Jr., St. Joseph High’s 7-1 big man, always came-up big on the court during his high school career.

Towns, who will play his college ball at Kentucky, closed out his career by helping his team win the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Tournament of Champions. Towns averaged 20.9 points per game, 13.4 rebounds and 6.2 blocked shots per contest.  For a big man, Towns has quite a touch, shooting 66.1% from the field and 82.2% from the foul line, while knocking down 127 three-pointers over the last three seasons.

Towns, who carried a 3.66 GPA, is a member of the Dominican Republic National Team.  He was Gatorade’s National Player of the Year and two-time Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year.

Towns is the second New Jersey player to be honored by the NHSCA as its National Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. Samardo Samuels of St. Benedict’s Prep, who is currently playing professional basketball in Italy, was the 2008 NHSCA Player of the Year in boys’ basketball.

Towns played for the Wildcats for one year. He was the SEC Rookie of the Year before declaring entry into the 2015 NBA Draft. He was the overall number 1 pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Towns was named the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year and was on the All- Rookie First Team. Towns is a two time NBA All Star in 2018 and 2019.
