Impact Statement

Burgess has made an impact both on the court and in the classroom while at Berkeley Prep and at Stanford University.

Biography

The 6-foot-1 outside hitter led the Buccaneers to a 30-2 record and its third consecutive 4A state championship. She amassed 553 kills, 514 service receptions, 366 digs, 48 aces, 38 assists and 32 blocks while recording a hitting percentage of .457, earning Florida 4A Player of the Year honors. She had 539 kills, 320 digs, 58 blocks and 51 aces as a junior. She was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year after earning Gatorade Florida Player of the Year honors for the third time, and also is a two-time U.S. Girls National Team member.

The PrepVolleyball.com Junior of the Year last year, Burgess received the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Volleyball award for the second straight year, becoming the first repeat winner in the award’s 20-year history, and was named an Under Armour First Team All-American. Also, an outstanding student, Burgess has maintained a 3.9 grade-point average, scored 2100 on the SAT and will attend Stanford University.

Burgess also is a founding director of Everyone Should Play, an organization that raises funds to help disadvantaged youths with the high cost of playing competitive sports.

While at Stanford, Burgess had an outstanding career. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team. She was an AVCA All-America first team as junior and honorable mention as a sophomore. She was named All Pac-10 Conference three times. As a senior, Burgess was the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree. She was also bestowed as the Senior CLASS Award All-America, first team.

After graduation, Burgess played a year of professional volleyball in the VfB Suhl Lotto Thuringia in the top professional league in Germany, the Bundesliga.
