Biography

Prior to taking over at Delton Kellogg in 2006, the team had never had a winning season. No girls’ team in any sport had ever won a regional title. Magelssen and team worked to change that by creating Delton Kellogg into a powerhouse.

In 2012, Magelssen added to his national record for victories by leading Delton Kellogg School to the Michigan Class B state semifinals.

Magelssen was the head coach at Portage Northern for 28 years. He lead the Huskies to 10 state titles. Magelssen is the second all-time winningest volleyball coach, with 1,832 victories at the time of his retirement.  Magelssen retired after the 2012 season.

He was part of the inaugural class of inductees into the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004.
