Impact Statement

“Colin Sahlman proved to be the best runner on the best cross country team in U.S. history, but there’s a lot more to his season than that,” says Doug Binder, Dyestat.com Editor-in-Chief.

Biography

Sahlman is considered the nation’s best long distance runner. In the fall, he won California Division 1 state championship in cross country along with the gold medal at the national championships. For those performances, he was named Gatorade’s National Player of the Year in cross county.

During the Spring, he had the fastest high school times in the 1,500-, 3,000- and 3,200-meter races. In February, he became just the 13th high school to run a mile in under four minutes.

On May 28, he ran the third fastest mile ever by a high schooler. The future Northern Arizona University runner did it at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic in Oregon. His time was 3:56.24, which placed him ahead of 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy.
