Biography

Holmes closed-out his scholastic career by winning his second straight Colorado Class 5A No. 1 singles championship. He beat Morgan Schilling of Regis Jesuit High School 7-5, 7-5. It was the second straight year that Holmes defeated Schilling in the state title match.

Holmes’ defense of his title almost never got off the ground. He sustained a torn meniscus in his knee before the start of the season. After minor surgery and physical therapy he was able to return to the court.

Holmes, who will play college tennis at Utah State, is an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA and is considered a 4-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net. He is a 3-time winner of the Chatfield Senior High School Athlete of the Year. Utah State University head tennis coach, James Wilson, said this about Holmes: “Christian is a high achiever with high character that will immediately make a positive contribution. His tennis game, athleticism and work ethic made a lasting impression, and I feel he has a lot of potential. I’m excited to work with him next fall.”

Holmes began producing his freshman year at Utah State prior to the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the season. He was the Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.

His freshman season, Holmes posted a 5-15 record in Singles. He was an ITA Scholar-Athlete. He was named Academic All-Mountain West and the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete. Holmes was the USU Whitesides Scholar-Athlete in 2020, as well.
