Biography
Brie Oakley, who only started running cross country as a junior, won Colorado’s Class 5A title last year and then won the Nike Cross National’s individual title by 28 seconds.
As a junior in her first state cross country meet, Oakley, who will run at the University of California in Berkeley, finished second. Then during track season, she set a 5A state meet record in winning the 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter races.
Oakley, who also won Gatorade’s National Girls’ Runner of the Year Award, is an excellent student with a 4.6 grade point average. She’s the second straight Colorado runner to win the NHSCA Senior Girls’ Cross Country Athlete of the Year. Katie Rainsberger from Air Academy in Colorado Springs won the award last year.
While at Cal, Oakley continues her success on and off the track. As a freshman, she earned USTFCCCA All-America honors. She was the Pac-12 Freshman of the year in Cross Country. Off the track, Oakley was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member her freshman and sophomore years.
